Golden Dawn by lostheart Golden Dawn by lostheart
Those of you who are familiar with my photos probably know this dead tree in the water since I've had quite a few photos of this scene in my gallery over the years, but I was never really happy with any of them.

I remember this place as a nice green meadow about 20 years ago, but there used to be a lot of mining in the area where I live and the tunnels have not been filled up properly when the coal was low and the company moved on, resulting in the ground sinking in and gathering water which steadily grew to this lake.

When time permits I check this area out since it is basically around the corner from where I live which means that I can quickly react to any change in weather.
One early morning I noticed a really dense fog and got myself a few shots of the sunrise.

Here it is in all its glory, straight from the scan with no Photoshop manipulation whatsoever apart from a minor color correction to get the file to look like the slide.

In case you are wondering…I didn't even notice the heron flying by until I got my slides back.
I guess I was still a little sleepy since the photo was shot at 6:15 a.m.

Thanks for checking it out…

Great shot!

I love the reflections of the sun on the water. Those stumps in the water are also great to look at.

Too bad the herons is there, but it's not your fault. It is still a beautiful shot.

Divinely beautiful. If you consider ps'ing it, add some more water to the bottom, and duplicate the tree top in the reflection.

i'd never be able to wake up that early to get a shot like this. beautiful.

Congrats on being an artist of mention!
What a wonderful capture to have for this event, too! The reflection in the calm of the water is superb and the clarity, despite the fog, makes you really look to find the dividing line between the two. The heron is a nice touch even if you didn't plan that one. Take a bow! Sleepy or not you did good!

This is a beautifully serene capture. The dead tree and the bird in flight look very good. And the soft sunlight comign through the clouds more than convinced me to fav this. I :worship: your awesome photography!

A beautiful shot, and well worth the number you've obviously taken of it to get to this. The "accidental" heron makes it really haunting!

After months of winterly white scenery and crisp crystal mornings it seems that this is just what my eyes were aching for. Winter is/can be tranquil, but it seems to be missing something... I know! - the sounds. This has muffled warm sounds that go with the golden tones. I miss them.

Amazing artwork Sascha, The colors are soft yet powerful, and the tree looks mysterious and elegant, plus the blurry effect of the fog, make a great photography!

A golden dawn brings us the promises of a new day.
the stark reality, however is loudly stated by the remaining trees.
Increasingly worn by the passing waters.
The lifting fog is like the mask uncovering the face.
Ahh, but what face shall we see today.

A true work of art, my friend.
I could gaze at this all day!

Oh wow, so beautiful! Mornings have to be my favourite time of day, and scenery like this is the main reason why!

Very smooth and with tons with atmosphere, otherworldly, just like I like it. I would prefer it without the heron, but it's definately not something I see as a flaw. I also like the pieces of trees sticking out of the water which further adds a mysterious aspect to image together with the fog.

I would like to suggest a grey one pixel border instead of the white BTW.

This will fit nicely in my favorites.

Cheers Bjorn!
I have a bunch of photos of this scenery since I was bracketing a bit to get the mood and atmosphere on slide.
I do have the same image without the heron and I, too, like the one without it as well.
It was just a matter of picking one and I chose this one.
Many thanks for the means a lot!

beatiful shot. like it a lot
the scene is pretty indeed. like especially the atmosphere here. The dawn, the fog, the reflection in the water and i'll not forget this tree on the left. Altogether a great composition. The black border is the cherry on the cake, fits perfect to the picture.
super sascha

Great shot. Love the non-existant horizon line. Very well done, my friend.

There is a miniumlism in this photo, with the small portion of shadows indicating the objects in our view, and the composition formed by the sun, water, tree and various objects in the frame are at a beautiful harmony. I also love how the bird is included, acts to the quite and yet dramatic piece more life.

No editing eh? It looks beautiful the way it is. The solitude feeling and the silhouette of the fog is magnificent. Beautiful capture.

wow, the fog make the scene feel very special. Woud'nt be as nice witout it.
and of course, this little fellow in the sky is a nice touch, even if you didn't knew about it ;)
